Psychocandy, the hallowed debut album of the scottish rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain, is turning 35 today. The record’s signature aesthetic has become ingrained in the foundations of indie rock. Psychocandy‘s influence was immense and immediate, and can be traced directly to shoegaze, buzzy lo-fi of the ’90s, and just about every contemporary band that spikes melodic sweetness with acrid bursts of feedback and distortion.
